Choose a manageable clip

Choose a short scene, a familiar topic and clear sound. Subtitles can help you recognize words you already know. An interview, part of a report or an age-appropriate scene is enough; what matters is having something to say about it.

Meaning before detail

After watching once, summarize simply: who is speaking, about what and in which situation? Then return to a useful expression. If every sentence needs translation, choose something easier or shorten the clip.

Make an expression your own

Take a sentence and change one detail to make it about you. Or describe the scene in a few words. Find more practice ideas in the Watch & Speak advice series.
